Dr. Shaobo Lei

Dr. Shaobo LeiDr. Shaobo Lei is a double-fellowship trained retinal specialist and award-winning vision science researcher. After completing his MD, PhD, ophthalmology residency, and fellowships in vitreoretinal surgery and neuro-ophthalmology at the University of Toronto, He practices a full-time surgical/medical retina specialist and high-volume cataract surgeon in Ontario, Canada.

He developed a surgical practice focused on complex anterior and posterior segment conditions, including combined cataract and retina procedures, surgical management of dislocated intraocular lens, aqueous misdirection, choroidal effusions, and complications of ocular trauma—cases that demand both precision and creativity. These experiences have deepened his commitment to providing confident, evidence-based care for even the most challenging surgical scenarios.

His commitment extends beyond clinical excellence. Fluent in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese, Dr Lei strives to bridge cultural and linguistic gaps in patient care, ensuring comfort and clarity for all. Outside the clinic, you might find him speed skating competitively, flying remote-controlled airplanes with his children, or tending to his blueberry bushes—a small hobby that reminds him daily of growth and nurturing.

Dr. Arjmand

Dr. Parnian ArjmandParnian Arjmand, M.D., M.Sc., FRCSC, DABO is a vitreoretinal surgeon specializing in the medical and surgical management of vitreous and retinal conditions.

Dr. Arjmand completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Toronto with a specialization in immunology, where she was awarded the Heaslip Scholarship at Trinity College. She then pursued a two-year Master’s degree in Immunology at SickKids Hospital, University of Toronto. Following this, she attended medical school at McMaster University before completing a five-year ophthalmology residency at the University of Ottawa. She subsequently underwent a two-year vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the University of Toronto (Sunnybrook and Toronto Western Hospitals), where she also served as chief fellow.

Dr. Arjmand practices at the Mississauga Retina Institute, Burlington Laser Eye Centre, and Baycrest Health Sciences Centre. Her surgical expertise includes vitrectomy for macular diseases (macular hole, epiretinal membrane, vitreomacular traction), diabetic eye disease, retinal detachment, and complex anterior segment surgery for aphakia and the management of dislocated or subluxated intraocular lenses.

Actively engaged in clinical research, Dr. Arjmand participates in retina-related clinical trials and has received numerous clinical awards and research grants. She has contributed to several book chapters, editorials, and peer-reviewed research articles.

Dr. Arjmand is double board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. She is a member of the American Society of Retina Specialists, the Canadian Retina Society, and the Canadian Ophthalmological Society. She is also a past executive member and the current media strategist for the Eye Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and serves on multiple committees within the Canadian Ophthalmological Society.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Arjmand is an avid runner and enjoys scuba diving, skiing, and spending time with her family. She is proficient in English, French, Persian, and medical Spanish.

Dr.Nina Ahuja

Dr.Nina AhujaDr.Nina Ahuja graduated from medical school at McMaster University then completed her residency in ophthalmology at University of Ottawa. She began her surgical practice in Hamilton in 2003 and was a key contributor in establishing the ophthalmology residency program at McMaster, a program that started in 2005. Over the years she has held several senior leadership positions in hospital, academic and advocacy organizations including St. Josephs Healthcare Hamilton where she was President of the Medical Staff Association, member of the Medical Advisory Committee, and Joint Board of Governors. She is presently on the Board of Directors for St. Joseph Healthcare Foundation, and member of the Canadian Ophthalmological Society (COS) Equity Diversity and Inclusion Working Group, and COS Council on Advocacy.

Passionate about surgery, education and leadership, Dr. Ahuja has won numerous awards for excellence in teaching (Surgical Teacher of the Year (2019, 2018, 2014, 2009), Resident Appreciation Award (2017, 2016), and for contributions to residency education including as past Residency Program Director for ophthalmology at McMaster University. She is currently President for the Association of Canadian University of Professors of Ophthalmology (ACUPO), Academic Division Head for Ophthalmology at McMaster, and an examiner for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Drawing from her experiences as a frontline healthcare provider, private practice owner, educator, and physician leader, in 2019 Dr. Ahuja founded Docs in Leadership to promote and deliver physician developed leadership education. Through her Docs in Leadership Emerging Leaders Program and Physician Online Community, Dr. Ahuja’s goal is to connect with MD trainees and practicing physicians to help them thrive, personally and professionally, by transforming them into emotionally intelligent physicians and leaders from early in their career. Author of bestselling book, “Stress in Medicine: Lessons Learned Through My Years as a Surgeon, from Med School to Residency, and Beyond”, Dr. Ahuja writes a blog for Psychology Today called, “Striving High: Understanding the unique joys and stresses of high achievers”. She has been an invited guest on several podcasts in Canada and the US to talk about leadership education and physician wellness.

Dr.Nour Nofal

Dr. Nour NofalDr. Nour Nofal earned her Bachelor of Science, Anatomy and Cellular Biology McGill University, Montreal, Quebec and her Doctor of Medicine University of Montreal, Quebec. She completed her Residency program, Ophthalmology at McGill University, Montreal, Quebec where she was named Chief Resident and won the Resident Cataract Surgical Skills Award in her graduating year. Afterward, she completed a year-long fellowship specializing in Cornea at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne, Australia. She specialized in cornea transplants, corneal cross-linking, complex anterior segment and cataract surgeries. Dr Nofal's work has been featured in a variety of publications including journals and books such as Cornea and the Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Nofal has a passion for teaching, from her peers in the operating room and clinic to her flight students during her career as a flight instructor in the Cadet Instructor Cadre division of the Royal Canadian Air Force. With the same intent, she was involved on the executive board of the International Federation of Medical Students and the Association of Residents of McGill during her medical training. In the future, she plans to continue to be involved in multiple committees and roles at the hospital level.

During her free time, Dr. Nofal is an avid scuba diver, pilates instructor and skiier. Her biggest passion is flying and you'll often find her flying planes on floats as well as gliders across Canada.

Dr. Tam

Dr. Diamond TamDr Diamond Tam was born and raised in Vancouver, BC, Dr. Tam has studied around the globe, achieved many academic awards.

Dr. Tam completed a combined degree in Chemistry and Biochemistry with honours distinction at University of British Colombia.

Dr. Tam received the following awards during his undergraduate degree: Dean’s Honour List, Outstanding Student Initiative Scholarship, President’s Entrance Scholarship, and Canada Scholar in Science and Technology.

Dr. Tam completed medical school at the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland followed by an internship in New Haven, Connecticut in internal medicine, general surgery, and pediatrics.

Dr. Tam accomplished his ophthalmology residency training at the University of California in San Francisco where he received the Asbury Award for best clinical paper by a resident.

Dr. Tam furthered his studies with a subspeciality clinical fellowship at the University of Toronto. He specializes in cataract surgery, advanced anterior segment surgery, and glaucoma surgery.

Dr. Tam served as a full-time Assistant Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology at Stanford University in California and is currently an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Toronto.

Dr. Tam has been an invited instructor at local and international conferences and has given numerous lectures, presentations, and surgical wet labs.

Dr. Tam is a highly accomplished pianist! His accolades include: multiple piano performance diplomas, winner of the Canadian Music Competition for 4 consecutive years, performances and competitions across North America, Japan, France, and the Netherlands, and has been featured in newspaper, radio, and TV broadcasts.

Dr. Tam enjoys spending time with his wife, four children, and loyal canine companion. He enjoys traveling, exploring nature, scuba diving, martial arts, and theology.
